Bund Classic 2013, Shanghai
The first classic car Concours event in China took place from the 18th to the 20th of October. It was held on the lawn of the beautiful "Bund 33", the ex- British Embassy in the historic Bund district of Shanghai, with the stunning Shanghai riverside skyline as the backdrop, and was by invitation only. Our Porsche 356 was one of the stars of the show, and won the People's Choice award in the concours.
A special permit was given by the Chinese government for a parade of the cars along a stretch of the waterside road on the Bund.
Iain assisted the organisers in the lead up to and during the event, including being a speaker at the forum. He was also one of the drivers in the parade. "It was a very special moment to be able to drive a classic car in such a spectacular setting, possibly for the first time ever", he said. Concours judges included Sandra Button, Chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours, Iain Tyrrell and James Knight, head of Bonhams motoring department (also a forum presenter) as well as Asia Pacific CEO's from leading car manufacturers.
Considering it was an inaugural event, the organisers , China Rendez-Vous, were delighted with the outcome. Guests included many highly influential people within China, and the feedback and atmosphere were very positive. Cars entered included several exotic pre- war cars including two Rolls- Royces, supercharged cars from Auburn and Mercedes- Benz, and a Duesenberg. Post -war cars included a largely original Porsche 356, Lincoln Continental Mark 2 and a Hongki, China's state limousine.
