1999 Subaru Impreza 22B
Subaru produced their limited edition 22B widebody coupe version of the WRX STI between March and August 1998. The 22B was used to commemorate both Subaru's 40th anniversary as well as the third consecutive manufacturer's title for Subaru in the FIA World Rally Championship. All 400 Japanese cars sold immediately and only 24 additional cars were produced for export markets: 16 for the UK, 5 for Australia and 3 prototypes. Approximately 50 of the Japanese cars were imported privately into the UK, as was this car. There are currently only 51 22Bs on DVLA's records.
The 22B had the EJ22 engine size increased from 1,994 cc to 2,212 cc, and produced 280 bhp as standard. It also featured a flared widebody taken from the Peter Stevens designed WRC car, Bilstein suspension and Brembo brakes. The wheels were increased in size from the standard 16" WRX Type R STI to 17" and the clutch was upgraded to a ceramic sintered twin plate.
This stunning example has been kept substantially standard apart from a Graham Goode engine upgrade (to 300 bhp), electric adjustable suspension, AP Racing front brakes and leather seats with quilted inserts. It has a highly impressive history file, reflecting that it has always been cared for by specialists, including full Graham Goode engine and transmission rebuilds within the last 15,000 miles and a recent refurbishment of the under-side to near concours standards.
Probably the best example on the market today, and highly collectable.
